England’s star batter, Joe Root, has opened up about the possibility of approaching Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in Test cricket. Root has been in phenomenal form over the past few years, steadily climbing the ranks of the all-time highest run scorers in Test matches.

Root currently holds seventh place on the list of leading run scorers in Tests, with 12,402 runs from 146 matches and 267 innings. He now has a realistic chance of catching up to Tendulkar’s record. Recently, Root spoke about the possibility of becoming the all-time leading Test run-scorer, stating that he isn’t focused on chasing records but is instead dedicated to scoring as many runs as possible for his team.

Root is 3,519 runs behind Tendulkar Sachin Tendulkar remains the top scorer in Test cricket history with 15,921 runs from 200 matches and 329 innings. Root, currently 3,519 runs away from leveling Tendulkar’s tally, is in strong form and could potentially overtake the legendary Indian batter. Since 2021, Root has amassed 4,554 runs from 48 matches, averaging 56.92, with 17 centuries and 15 half-centuries.

Though he is still some distance away from Tendulkar’s towering total, Root recently addressed the possibility of surpassing the Indian legend. However, he remains grounded, stating that he isn’t focused on chasing records but is dedicated to contributing as many runs as possible for England.

With six more Tests scheduled for Root this year—three each against Pakistan and New Zealand—the England batter is expected to make further strides in his pursuit of the all-time Test run-scorers list.
