Jay Shah new icc president elected unopposed as the next independent chairman of the International Cricket Council. The 35-year-old will succeed current ICC chairman Greg Barclay on December 1 this year, according.
One of Shah’s biggest challenges will be to ensure the continued success of Test cricket and build on the momentum already achieved in the first two full cycles of the ICC World Test Championship.
Shah recognizes the excitement that T20I cricket brings and the appeal it brings to players at the international level and in domestic tournaments around the world, but he wants to ensure that the traditions of Test cricket are not lost and continue to thrive during this period of his term.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the ICC member bodies for trusting me to take on the honorable role of ICC chairman,” Jay Shah new icc president and this is great news for BCCI.
“I want to assure you that I will do all I can to raise the standard of our game around the world.
In taking on this important role, I will do my utmost to meet your high expectations and dedicate myself to the beautiful game of cricket.
“While T20 is an inherently exciting format, it is equally important that Test cricket, which forms the foundation of our game, remains a priority for all. We need to ensure that cricketers have the appetite to play in the longer formats and our efforts will be directed towards this goal.”
Defining moments from the #WTC23 final
Shah will be seen at cricket’s return to the Olympics in the Summer Games, while the current BCCI secretary-general also wants to ensure that women’s cricket and disability cricket get the support they deserve.
Earlier this year, the ICC Board committed to expanding the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup to 16 teams by the 2030 tournament, but Shah believes that greater focus on key areas would boost the sport.
“We must further advance the ICC’s mission by putting more resources and attention into women’s cricket and cricket for the disabled,” Shah said.
