India’s Jay Shah has been elected unopposed as the next independent president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The official announcement was made on the apex council’s website on Tuesday, August 27.

Shah will succeed Greg Barclay, who decided not to seek a third term after his term ends on November 30. Shah has been secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) since 2019 and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since 2021.

Shah was the only presidential candidate and after being elected, the 35-year-old stressed that his goal was to make cricket more popular than ever before.
